Why This Reference Exists
North Carolina does not run one statewide jail roster. County sheriffs and regional detention systems hold local booking records, while the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports selected highway arrests and enforcement work. Courts record case events and dispositions. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction maintains the state search for prisoners, probationers, and people on parole. These are related records, but each answers a different question.
The purpose here is public-records literacy: name the source, read its date and status, know who created the entry, and check the court result before drawing a conclusion. North Carolina law makes defined arrest information public, yet a public record is not the same as a statewide photo feed. This site links readers toward the right custodian and does not publish booking images itself.
What the Pages Cover
The state pages focus on distinct lookup paths and keep them separate:
- The home page joins county feeds, booking records, photo policies, court and federal sources, and official wanted information.
- The County Directory routes to each North Carolina county’s own recent-arrests site.
- Arrests Last 24 Hours, Police Blotter, and VINELink Custody Check separate current bookings, longer logs, and one-person custody alerts.
- Highway Patrol explains the Patrol’s public arrest news and how its arrests reach county or regional jails.
What This Site Cannot Do
This is not a North Carolina government service and has no official tie to a sheriff, detention center, court, or corrections agency. It cannot release or transfer a person, confirm current custody, provide an official booking photo, post bond, arrange a visit, or give legal advice.
- Only the custodial agency can confirm a person’s present location or release status.
- Only the record holder can provide a certified copy or explain its request rules.
- A court or qualified lawyer must address case questions and legal advice.
- Portal hours, fees, and policies can change; check with the named office.
For current county custody, charges, or a booking copy, use the sheriff or receiving detention office. For state prison or supervision, use the Department of Adult Correction. The originating agency is the source for official information.
